NCCF receives National Standards

North Carolina Community Foundation in Top Philanthropic Tier Nationally

Meets Rigorous Standards for Quality and Accountability

The NCCF has met the nation’s highest philanthropic standards for operational quality, integrity and accountability, according to Steve Gunderson, president and chief executive officer of the Council on Foundations (COF), which awards the designation. The COF is a national professional association based in Washington, D.C.

“This is similar to the Good Housekeeping Seal for community foundations,” Gunderson said. “It says that the NCCF has demonstrated a commitment to operational quality, integrity and accountability.”

The National Standards for U.S. Community Foundations Program requires community foundations to document their policies for donor services, investments, grantmaking and administration. The program is designed to provide quality assurance to donors and their legal and financial advisors. About 200 community foundations nationwide have been confirmed in compliance.

(2012 note: The Foundation is currently seeking renewal of its National Standards status.)

NCCF receives Charity Navigator’s top four-star rating for fifth time!

NCCF is pleased to report that we remain a four-star agency according to Charity Navigator for the fifth consecutive time period. Charity Navigator has updated the way it analyzes nonprofit organizations, and NCCF remains in its top tier. Only four percent of the charities they rank nationwide have received this ranking five times in a row.

The nonprofit watch-dog now looks at a more indepth series of metrics, including financial performance; accountability and transparency; and accessibility of key information from our website. This is the second rating period using its new approach to evaluations.

“In these difficult economic times, we’re thrilled to give donors more information to help them determine which charities they support are efficient and accountable,” said Ken Berger, president and CEO of Charity Navigator.

The NCCF page on Charity Navigator graphically depicts at-a-glance how we rate in these various categories.

Charity Navigator describes itself as "American's premiere independent charity evaluator." Read more about the new rating system here.
